Points of Distinction

  • PLNU is one of twelve CCCU urban institutions located within close proximity to art galleries and world-class art museums.
  • The Visual Arts major includes a recognized Sculpture and Installation Major.
  • Two newer concentrations are offered in 1) Art History and 2) Video, Performance and Interactive Media with the Department of Communication Studies.
  • Outdoor workspaces for all art students enjoy close ocean views.
  • Professional artists, faculty, and visual art students exhibit artworks in Keller Fine Arts Gallery.
  • Art faculty members are practicing artists with exhibitions in respected local and national settings; others are engaged in research.
  • 60% of art students major in graphic design. Some have received recognition by San Diego’s AIGA  while undergraduates.
  • PLNU is one of three CCCU institutions offering an arts-oriented semester abroad program (Euroterm). An additional summer model begins in summer 2015.
  • Community arts resources include: local schools, San Diego art museums, graphic design internships, drawing and painting classes offered at the historic former Naval Training Center, Art Walk, and more.
