Competency-based curriculum was adopted by incorporating the Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education (AACN, 2021). The mapping of curriculum is a dynamic transparent matrix depicting the alignment of core courses in the graduate nursing programs. It serves as a guide for faculty to intentionally display curriculum cohesiveness.
Curriculum Mapping has several benefits including improving instruction through clear outcomes, identification of repetition, gaps, and potential areas for integration. Additionally, Curriculum Mapping serves as a monitoring device for sufficient quality evidence to match outcomes (Allen, 2004).
The School of Nursing Curriculum Maps for the MSN and DNP programs identify where each Program Value (Outcome) is introduced, developed, and/or mastered throughout the program.
