Use of the Evidence of Student Learning

Evidence of student learning as related to the four Program Learning Outcomes is summarized in the documents below.  Rubrics are used for all direct assessments.

For the MS exam used to assess PLO’s 1, 2, and 3, four different biology professors each use the rubric to assess the portion of the student’s exam that is related to their specialty rather each section being assessing by multiple professors.  Professors have discussed the meaning of each cell in the rubric.

For the MS thesis used to assess PLO’s 1, 2 and 3, three different biology professors (all members of the students’ thesis committee) use the rubric to assess the entire written thesis.  Professors have discussed the meaning of each cell in the rubric. Given that theses are extremely long and time consuming to read, actual rubric calibration has not been done.  Since D. Anderson and A. Cordero are members of every committee, this provides consistency in use of the rubric.
